The Full Story

Sugar’s name is sweet, but her past was anything but. Before coming to the shelter, Sugar lived in a neglected situation where she was allowed to roam on her own with little to no human interaction. She never learned what it meant to feel safe, cared for, or loved by people.

When Sugar first arrived, the world was terrifying to her. It took months of consistency, patience, and gentle care from shelter staff before she began to trust us. She has made progress, but trust does not come easily for her, and new people still scare her. Sugar is not a dog who will instantly warm up — she needs time, space, and understanding.

Because of this, Sugar needs a quiet, low-stress home with no small children and minimal commotion. Loud environments and constant activity are overwhelming for her. She would thrive with a calm family who understands that love for Sugar will be measured in months, not days.

Sugar is looking for a very special family — one with patience, compassion, and a big heart — who is willing to let her move at her own pace and show her that the world doesn’t have to be scary. Once she trusts you, that bond will be incredibly meaningful.

  • Quiet home required
