The Full Story
Mystic’s story begins on one of the coldest days imaginable. She was found laying in someone’s yard in the single-digit temperatures alongside a male dog named Mochi, who is also safe at the shelter. A kind Good Samaritan called for help when it was clear something was terribly wrong—both dogs were severely underweight, and Mochi was injured. Without that call, neither of them may have survived.
Mystic had been starved nearly to death before coming into our care. Because of this, she is still underweight, but she is steadily gaining weight and strength every day. Her love for food isn’t greed—it’s survival. Mystic eats like every meal might be her last, a heartbreaking reminder of what she endured before kindness finally found her.
Because of her food insecurity, Mystic would likely do best in a home without very small children, as she may snatch food or treats out of hands. This isn’t aggression—this is a dog who once didn’t know when she’d eat again.
Despite everything she’s been through, Mystic is resilient and deserving of a home that will continue to show her what safety, consistency, and love look like. She needs someone patient and understanding, someone who can help her learn that meals will always come and she will never be forgotten again.
